Hotels & Motels in Ontario

• A WorldWeb.com Travel Guide for Ontario, Canada.
Ontario, a veritable land of discovery, is the most populated province in Canada and is home to the nation's historic capital of Ottawa, and Toronto, one of the country's most diverse metropolitan centres. It is without question that Ontario, with its urban hubs, vast countryside, quaint towns and beachside resorts, has a wide-ranging selection of large and small hotels and motels across the province. Business and leisure travellers alike will appreciate the choices available.

GREATER TORONTO AREA

Amenities across the spectrum are available at hotels and motels throughout the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), which encompasses four regional municipalities and spreads from Burlington in the west, north to Newmarket and east to Oshawa. The range of options is vast; full-service properties in close proximity to airports, downtown properties offering easy access to urban attractions, small-scale hotels in culturally rich enclaves and affordable lodgings in area boroughs are just a sample of hotel types offered in the GTA. Visitors to the city of Toronto will be grateful for the range of properties available, whether travelling for leisure, for business or with children. Le Meridien King Edward and the Four Seasons Hotel are options for those seeking luxury and inner-city conveniences, while family- and pet-friendly brand hotels are also plentiful and offer services sure to please all ages.

CENTRAL ONTARIO

This area, which lies between the eastern end of Lake Ontario and the shores of Georgian Bay, is predominately agrarian and lake land dotted with smaller towns and a few burgeoning centres, including the dynamic cities of Peterborough and Barrie. Hotel choices in central Ontario are as immense as its geographical area; major hotel chains in larger towns and cities are mixed with many independently operated small-scale motel and hotel properties offering standard to luxury accommodation solutions.

Huntsville, Gravenhurst and Bracebridge, all nestled within the popular Muskoka region, provide a wide selection of choices, including an array of full-service international chain hotels. Visitors to the South Georgian Bay district will appreciate the variety of motel and hotel choices available in towns like Collingwood and Wasaga Beach, where properties offer easy access to nearby ski resorts in winter and freshwater beaches in summer. Also known as cottage country, the area experiences a drastic increase in population during peak summer months, resulting in a scarcity of hotel and motel vacancies throughout the region. Early bookings are highly recommended.

NORTHERN ONTARIO

While constituting a large percentage of Ontario's land mass, the northern region of Ontario only makes up a small part of the province's overall population, making it an ideal getaway for those looking for solitude amidst unspoiled, rustic wilderness. Hotel accommodations are not as plentiful as in other areas of the province but many major towns and centres along the Trans Canada Highway offer properties for both leisure and business travellers. North Bay, Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie all offer a full range of comfortable hotels for budget-minded visitors stopping for a night or for an extended stay. Thunder Bay, the north’s second largest centre after greater Sudbury, offers a mix of smaller family-run properties, major chain hotels and affordable, family-friendly alternatives.

SOUTHWESTERN ONTARIO

Stretching from Hamilton to the border cities of Sarnia and Windsor along Ontario's southernmost point and Lake Erie's northern shores, this area of the province is well-known for its Shakespearean theatre, countryside charm and dynamic cities and towns. The larger centres of London, Guelph, Cambridge and Kitchener-Waterloo all offer convenient lodging opportunities at many major chain hotels and independent properties. Notable accommodation selections include the old-world charm of the Best Western Parlour Historic Inn and Suites in Stratford, the expansive estate property at Windermere Manor in London and the Caesars Windsor casino hotel complex.

NIAGARA REGION

A world of wonder awaits visitors to this magical region, famous for its wines, the magnificent Niagara Falls and quaint, historic towns. Hotel selections for romantic getaways, family vacations and business travel are in abundance throughout the region. In addition to featuring a wide selection of chain hotels in larger centres such as St. Catharines, Welland and Niagara Falls, the Niagara Region also provides diverse lodging opportunities at an array of independent and smaller-scale properties in charming Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Visitors should note that this popular tourist region experiences fluctuations in accommodation pricing according to season. High traffic occurs from June to early September, while April to May and September to November make up the more affordable shoulder seasons. The low season, November to April, can offer deals but to avoid disappointment, travellers should note that some area attractions and services may be on hiatus until spring.

OTTAWA REGION

A world-class city of impressive charm and style, the nation's capital provides a wide selection of hotels and motels to suit any traveller. Business hotels, kid-friendly, amenity-filled properties and contemporary boutique-style accommodations are just a few of the choices available. Plenty of hotels can be found nestled in the heart of Parliament, within walking distance of downtown amenities or skirting the city in the burgeoning communities of Gloucester, Nepean and Kanata. Affordable rooms in the heart of ByWard Market at the ByWard Blue Inn, luxurious inner-city lodging in the fully appointed ARC Hotel and family-friendly accommodation at the convenient Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites Downtown are just a small sample of Ottawa's convenient offerings.

EASTERN ONTARIO

Stretching north along the scenic St. Lawrence River valley from Kingston to Cornwall and extending southeast to Belleville, Trenton and Prince Edward County, this region offers exceptional accommodation in a wide range of hotels and motels. In the historically rich city of Kingston, visitors have a choice of waterfront lodgings, including the well-appointed Confederation Place Waterfront Hotel. An excellent gateway to the famed Thousand Islands, Gananoque offers an array of well-equipped hotels such as the convenient Ramada Provincial Inn, which offers easy access to nearby boat cruises and town services. Brockville, notable for its Loyalist architecture, features numerous family-friendly hotels, while the military town of Trenton offers comfy beds in both chain and independent properties.
